Product Description

This module contains a more detailed version of neuron structure and function that build on what is taught in Module IV Part A: Section IV. This module also adds a fun way for students to understand the purpose of supporting cells (neuroglia).

Table of Contents:

I. Neurophysiology………………………………………………… pg 3-33

This section offers flashcards, activities that simplify the process of how each part of the neuron depolarizes (graded and action potential) followed by repolarization, and the effects of drugs on neurons. Your students will have fun learning these processes!

II. Supporting Cells (Neuroglia)…………………………………pg 34-46

Since neurons are so busy doing their job, they need supporting cells to help them survive. This section provides flashcards and information of their structure and role in the life of a neuron support cell.

III. Regeneration of the Nervous Tissue…………………………pg 47

Preview:

1. Draw a neuron on the board. Use a red piece of paper to show depolarization and a green piece of paper to represent repolarization.

2. Place the red folded paper up to represent the graded potential that the Na+ has created by entering the dendrite’s gated channel. Move the red paper towards the cell body to show how the depolarization travels.

3. Now, have the green folded paper (repolarization) follow the red paper (graded polarization). This is a great way for students to ‘visualize’ how the repolarization follows and prepares the neuron to fire again.
